Philips HeartStart OnSite Adult SMART Pads Cartridge 

The Adult SMART Pads Cartridge is the approved defibrillation electrode set for use with the Philips HeartStart OnSite AED and Philips HeartStart Home AED (and compatible models). When installed, these SMART Pads give the AED its ability to both analyze heart rhythm and deliver life-saving shocks to victims in cardiac arrest. 

Each cartridge stores one set of electrode pads behind a clear plastic cover and has the Philips “pull handle” built in.

Key Features & Specifications

• Intended Use: The pads are for persons weighing 55 pounds (25 kg) or more, or older than about 8 years — i.e. typical adult use. 

• Energy Delivery: When used with the OnSite/Home AED, the pads deliver a nominal 150 joules into a 50-ohm load; this is the standard therapeutic shock energy for adults.

• Active surface area is 13 square inches (85 square centimeters) per pad, and the cable length is 54 inches (85 centimeters)
  

• Pad Design and Cartridge Format: The pads are contained in a sealed, disposable cartridge. This cartridge snaps into the AED — no separate wiring or external pad placement needed. The cartridge format helps keep the pads sterile and ensures they are ready for immediate deployment in an emergency.

• Shelf Life / Replacement Guidelines: The cartridge is labeled with a “use-by” date of at least two years from date of manufacture when stored unopened.

•  After use — or if the foil seal is broken — the cartridge must be replaced to ensure AED readiness.

• Ease of Replacement: To replace pads, simply slide the release latch on top of the AED, remove the used cartridge, insert the new cartridge until it “clicks,” and ensure the green pull-handle is down. The AED will automatically self-test and indicate “ready.”
